1. invite jackson pollock over to your house and have a bucket of paint anywhere in the vicinity.
2. carry a trash bag with the remains of a "2000 flushes"-type toilet bowl cleaner, the one that comes in the form of a jar that you put in the tank, around your basement to collect the trash from the other wastebaskets — and then, notice that the bag has a hole in it which is allowing a roughly 35 foot long 1/2 inch wide swatch of "n-ethyl-n-(4[(4-(ethyl[(3-sulfophenyl)methyl]amino) phenyl)-(2-sulfophenyl)methylene]-2, 5-cyclohexadien-1-ylidene)3-sulfobenzenemethanaminium hydroxide inner salt, disodium salt" or "acid blue die #9" as it's better known, onto your carpet.
after four hours of hand blotting the carpet and nine hours of steam cleaning, normality seems to have been restored partially although i think i have another night of steam cleaning ahead.
neither of these activities can be recommended.
so, last night, some a-holes tagged my garage with blue spray paint.
the police are coming out to snap a picture for their gang unit and now i have to waste my time painting over it.
i'm pretty sure i can afford more paint than these jerks but it's causing me anxiety because it's gang sign.
anyone out there have experience with this and what course of action did you take?
friday night, i had to go up in the attic and rescue a tiny bird that had gotten stuck between the stove pipe and the insulation guard.
the space gets narrower as the pipe and the guard converge a bit on their way to the ceiling.
he probably landed on the guard to get some warmth and then fell in and couldn't move his wings to get out.
i removed the insulation guard and pulled the bird out of the insulation by his legs.
after twenty minutes of cajoling, i finally got him out of the attic and he has since gone on to do many of the things that birds who are alive and not stuck in attics are likely to do.
this is the closest youtube video so far that captures the vibe of walla walla after the windstorm.
more about the windstorm.
we got pounded by the wind storm here in walla walla and our house was without power for 4 days so anatone.net has been down.
luckily, we didn't have any irreparable damage and everyone is ok.
i will post some pictures soon, once we get the more urgent matters attended to.
i just finished putting in a granite countertop with tile up the wall and a new sink.

check out our new racoon!
sunday's temperature reached 108 degrees in walla walla, breaking the previous record of 106 degrees set in 1978, according to the national weather service.
we had a nice wind storm last night.
awoke to a bang at 4 a.m.
went outside to discover this entertaining job for today.
maybe i'll build a box over the gas meter...
the garage now has a new roof as well as ice cap edging and all the trappings of a modern roofing job, including two vents.
hopefully, that will help a bit this summer.
the accounts for the first time that i have used duct tape for its intended purpose. (not shown - as the picture was taken prior to the final touches on the vent pipe)
as i have gone about the business of fixing it up, i have been suprised many times by the lack of skill with which it was built and maintained.
the first clue was when we discovered, right after moving in, that the previous owner had attached peeling wallpaper back to the lathe and plaster walls with nails!!!
today, as i was replacing one of the electrical outlets in the kitchen, i was startled to hear two nuts fall out of the box. what the...?
what possible purpose (other than a fire hazard) could they have served?
since the kitchen is the current "major" project, here are some more pictures.
I shored up the cabinets with a car jack, a 2x4, and some screws.
also, as you can see, there are some new kitchen lights.
